DOUG OWEN'S BIO

Author Doug Owen presents his book The Unholy Silence, a haunted Idaho home story.

My background

Doug Owen is a well-known non-fiction author and independent paranormal investigator, as well as the founder of Authentic Haunted, a distinctive venture where he curates and trades rare haunted artifacts and allegedly cursed items. Based in Idaho, Doug has devoted decades to conducting paranormal research at some of America’s most enigmatic and haunted locations, including the infamous RMS Queen Mary and the Winchester Mystery House. His investigations also delve deeply into local Idaho landmarks, where he tirelessly uncovers the mysteries and folklore surrounding these often-overlooked sites.

His critically acclaimed memoir, The Unholy Silence, offers a raw and gripping account of the spiritual warfare that invaded his family’s life in a seemingly ordinary Idaho home. Through immersive storytelling and meticulous research, Doug reveals the chilling realities of demonic voices, twisted apparitions, and psychological torment. This book stands as a testament to his relentless pursuit of truth in the face of the supernatural—and the emotional toll such encounters can exact. In his second book, Thinning the Herd: Americans Under Siege by America, he explores themes of political injustice, media manipulation, and government overreach, broadening his writing into the critical realms of civil liberties and constitutional preservation.

Doug’s dedication to truth goes far beyond paranormal research. As a passionate advocate for liberty, transparency, and the Constitution, he uses his voice to challenge propaganda, question unchecked power, and awaken readers to the often-hidden forces shaping modern life. An independent researcher with an unwavering commitment to justice, Doug is inspired by the sacrifices of past generations, striving to secure a freer, more honest future for his children and all Americans. Writing is in Doug Owen's blood; his grandfather was a reporter for The Times after World War II and contributed to notable works, including Norjack: The Search for D.B. Cooper. His grandmother was also a reporter, making journalism a cornerstone of his heritage. Doug has carried that legacy forward by regularly contributing as the Pacific Northwest Reporter for Bank of America Properties’ corporate newsletter, where he penned articles on regional developments. Today, he continues to publish his own monthly newsletter, engaging readers with fresh insights, bold commentary, and firsthand reports from his ongoing investigations.

More than just a writer and researcher, Doug Owen is a multifaceted creator. A skilled auto mechanic, martial artist, painter, sculptor, and prop maker, he thrives at the intersection of creativity and practicality. His hands-on skills reflect his character: adaptive, resourceful, and deeply engaged with the world around him. Doug has a strong appreciation for craftsmanship, which is evident in his work with haunted artifacts, where history, emotion, and energy converge in the objects he uncovers and curates.

In his downtime, Doug enjoys drag racing, golfing, and target practice—activities that mirror his passion for precision, speed, and focus. An amateur chef with a love for culinary experimentation, he has even considered writing a future cookbook to blend his passion for food with his gift for storytelling. Whether he's working under the hood of a car, experimenting in the kitchen, or delving into research, Doug approaches every endeavor with intensity, creativity, and heart.

Above all, Doug is a father of four. His writing is often guided by a profound sense of duty to protect and inform the next generation. Through both his books and his life’s work, Doug Owen invites readers into a world where truth matters, mystery is respected, and courage is found in confronting the unknown.

My writing roots

Writing runs deep in my family. My grandfather was a reporter for the Times after World War II, and my grandmother followed in his footsteps as a reporter as well. He played a crucial role in editing and authoring several important books, including Norjack, The Search for D.B. Cooper, which remains a notable work in the world of investigative journalism and civil liberties. This legacy of storytelling and research has certainly influenced my own journey as a non-fiction author.

I’ve carried that tradition forward, starting with my time writing for the corporate newsletter at Bank of America Properties, where I shared insights, stories, and ideas with my readers. I’ve also delved into topics like haunted artifacts and paranormal research, exploring how these elements play into the broader themes of spiritual warfare and even the concepts discussed in my work, The Unholy Silence.

Writing has always been a way for me to connect with others, whether through personal stories or more structured pieces, and it’s something I’m proud to keep alive in my family.

My style

Doug Owen, a dedicated non-fiction author, showcases a writing style that is deeply rooted in authenticity and a commitment to truth, particularly in his exploration of civil liberties. He skillfully blends personal experience with a sharp focus on storytelling, ensuring that every word resonates with honesty and emotional depth. Doug’s investigative eye is informed by both his family’s legacy of journalism and his own diverse experiences, including his work in paranormal research. Whether he’s recounting chilling tales of haunted artifacts or providing socially aware commentary on spiritual warfare, Doug Owen’s writing invites readers to question, reflect, and connect with the raw realities of life. His voice remains engaging yet grounded, striking a balance between the emotional and the factual, always seeking to uncover deeper truths, as seen in his work, 'The Unholy Silence.'
